Contemporary Chanukiah. Chanukah is a Jewish holiday commemorating the miracle of a day’s worth of Menorah oil lasting for eight days. Jews light candles on a Chanukiah, adding a new candle every night of the eight-day festival. A ninth candle called Shamash is used to light the rest. Design requirements: Candles arranged in a straight-ish line, candles countable from a distance, and Shamash needs to be at a different height than other candles.
Mood board and materials: Contemporary judaica, such as other chanukiahs and a seder plate. Materials are dolomite, limestone, and Eilat stone.
Ideation sketches. Different shapes explored. Chosen form forms a loop on the ground to the left and rises over itself to the right where the Shamash sits.
